Falling For My Cigars
All right… how the hell can it be September already? How in the name of God is summer almost over? How in the world could we have an earthquake and hurricane in the same week? This is the kind of stuff that boggles the mind, but with the help of my hand-rolled happy sticks, I somehow seem to get through it all.
While time is shooting by at a breakneck speed, I certainly do love the fall season. It’s just so nice sitting outside in gorgeous weather while smoking cigars and drinking my libation of choice with my buddies, as the colors turn here in the northeast… pretty damned relaxing and soothing to the soul. School starts as the daughter is back to college, my son back in high school, and I have a quiet house all to myself during the day, allowing me to bring all of you this cigar-laden goodness with a fresh piece of mind. And, oh yeah… did I forget to mention football? High School, college, pro – I watch it all during the fall. I simply can’t imagine what most of America would have done without an NFL season if the lockout had continued. Damn, maybe we would have had to spend more time with the loved ones doing family stuff?… Nah… We’d probably just up our cigar consumption on Saturday’s, Sunday’s, and Monday nights. That would certainly be the manly thing to do.
Now, I don’t smoke in the house, so I don’t smoke during the games, and every year I say the same thing: I need a man cave. While my supposed better half doesn’t want to negotiate terms, I’ve been thinking about just going for it and surprising her when she gets home.
“Come on, honey, what the hell do we need a bedroom for, anyway? We can camp out in the living room, I mean really, where the hell is your sense of adventure?” Okay, I am admittedly completely full of Shinola, but a guy can dream… right? While it sounds nice in theory, I think the doghouse would be my new place of residence. But it’s this kind of creative goal setting that keeps my motor runnin’.
What I’ve actually been toying with is finally getting myself an iPad®, not only to do work on, but I can use the wi-fi to tap into my cable account and watch football and hockey in the garage and smoke cigars ‘til they have to pry me outta my chair with a giant spatula! Yeah baby, I think this is a ‘must’ purchase so I can enjoy the hand-rolled fruits of Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, as I scream at the dumbass refs, and whoever is attempting to knock off my team! Okay, it’s like $800 plus bucks… we can probably cut down on food money, new clothes, and hygiene products for a while. That’s it… I’ve convinced myself that this is an essential purchase, something that no pigskin rootin, beer guzzling, stogie sucking, man-card carrying Neanderthal can’t be without! Ah, cool crisp Sunday afternoons hanging out in football heaven while enjoying my La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduros, Gurkha Colorados, and the full range of JR Alternative Edicion Limitadas! Wow, I am loving this thought more and more with every passing minute! Being an idea man certainly has its advantages.
Hey, I realize that summer’s not officially over, but for all intents and purposes, it’s time to move on with the changing of the seasons. To me, the Fall is the nicest time of year to pound those Partagas, toke those Trinidads, and enjoy those El Rico Habanas! I am officially ready to take on Autumn with a cigar smoking vengeance, and I hope all of my Brothers of the Leaf will join me in my never ending quest for premium aged tobacco euphoria.
