E.P. Corrillo Core Line

I picked up the cigar up for review today at a local shop. I’m always on the lookout for cigar that I haven’t tried, and this one caught my eye. That’s really it, no big story or buildup to the review. As always, paired with water and gave the E.P. Corrillo Core Line a try. Let’s see how it went.

Wrapper: Ecuador

Binder: Nicaragua

Filler: Nicaraguan & Dominican

Size: Golosos 6 1/4 x 60

Price: $7.25

Pre-Smoke & Construction:

The wrapper had a nice yet rugged look to it. There were some good sized veins and a toothy (bumpy) appearance – rugged. The wrapper had a hayish smell, and the foot was more sweet. The cigar was evenly packed and slightly soft when squeezed. The pre-light draw had slight resistance with a flavor of sweet earthiness and natural sweet tobacco.

The ash held for about 1.5 inches, and the burn required no corrections.

The first third started off with simple earthiness with a woody background. As time went on, the flavors developed. When passing smoke through the nose, there was a slight spice with a tinge of sweetness. After about 1.5 inches, the main flavor was a dry sweet cocoa. Behind it were woody and earthy notes, along with a mild spice. The smoke feel was smooth and dry.

The second third went well. The main flavor was cocoa along with coffee notes. At times it was dry and powdery, and other times it was buttery and creamy. Like before, woody notes were in the background. Behind that, occasionally I picked up a faint earthiness. The spice had a slight increase in strength, which was most noticeable when passing smoke through the sinus.

The last third: The smoke feel really thickened up to a sweet creaminess with a buttery feel. I should mention that sometimes I’d take a draw and it would go back to a dry feel. Wood, coffee, and cocoa were the main flavors. None dominated the other, they all were equal. The spice took on a peppery feel with no harshness. It could be felt in the nose and via a tingle in the mouth.

This was a good medium to upper medium bodied cigar. While not amazing, the variety of flavors were nice. The changes kept things interesting, and the construction was good. There is nothing bad to report. It boils down to individual preference as always. If my description sounds appealing to you, I’d say pick a few up and give it a try.
