Guest Review – Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic

DON PEPIN GARCIA CUBAN CLASSIC – The Don Pepin Garcia Black Label Cuban Classic is a very smooth medium to full-bodied cigar. It is one of the cheaper smokes in the Don Pepin line and is made in their Esteli Nicaragua factory.

FIRST THIRD:
The cigar was very well constructed and had a nice appearance. There was a nice buttery aroma on the pre light sniff and despite the firmness of the cigar, the draw was very loose and allowed the smoke to flow plentifully. The initial flavor was a slight walnut with a background of buttery creaminess. Toward the middle of the first third, I picked up a slight note of spice. The spice left a nice flavor on the lips after each puff.
SECOND THIRD:
The nut and creaminess remained but lightened up a bit after the first third. The spice did not last long and at the middle of the second third, the flavor seemed uneventful. However, the smoothness of the smoke did relax me. A black pepper flavor became noticeable at the end of the second third and was a nice touch after thinking things were taking a turn for the worst.
FINAL THIRD:
The burn was going very well and I was getting very large amounts of smoke. This had my palate feeling full after each puff. I was having bottled water with the cigar and needed to sip after a few puffs to clean it up. The buttery nut flavor lasted for the entire cigar. I hit spots of slight pepper and spice with a creamy undertone, which kept me interested. Toward the middle of the last third, I picked up a very slight cocoa taste, which only lasted for a minute or so.
CONCLUSION:
This was a nice relaxing afternoon smoke. I have always enjoyed the Cuban Classic and do recommend that you try it. All of the others that I have smoked were more flavorful than the one that I smoked while writing this review. I am just assuming that this is just a fluke. Let me know your thoughts on it.
