1502 Cigars- Proudly Nicaraguan!

Friday, February 23rd, 2018

The hot new 1502 cigar brand is produced by the Global Premium Cigar Company in Nicaragua with three impressive premium blends currently in the company portfolio. 1502 Cigars have quickly become one of the hottest new boutique cigar companies on the market today. Why you ask?  Because using only the best binder and filler tobaccos paired with three pristine wrappers, it takes more than five years of stringent aging until you can toast and torch one of these fine cigars. Secondly, owner Enrique Sanchez has turned a long-time passion for smoking cigars into one of the most respected cigar brands in the industry. 1502 made its smashing debut at the 2012 IPCPR Trade Show in Orlando, Florida and Sanchez and his team of highly skilled blenders and rollers have continued to adhere to their mantra— ‘Proudly Nicaraguan’. The brand name 1502 comes from the year that Christopher Columbus discovered Nicaragua and the band was inspired by the official currency of the kingdom of Spain in that same year.

1502 Emerald cigars are uncharacteristically mellow for such a dynamic blend of Nicaraguan and Mexican tobaccos.  The cigars subtle strength and easygoing smoothness comes from aging these fine leaves for five years in cedar cabinets before they are unveiled.  A vintage Corojo wrapper from Nicaragua completes this fine recipe. lush notes of sweet spice, cocoa, cedar, and subtle hints of chocolate are delivered with an engaging mellow-bodied profile. A great introduction for new hobbyists, 1502 Emerald cigars also double is an iconic morning to mid-day smoke for the well-seasoned cigar connoisseur.

Moving up in strength a couple of notches, the medium-bodied 1502 Ruby cigars feature top-quality Jalapa and Estelí Nicaraguan binder and fillers paired with a reddish-hue Ecuadorian wrapper. This Cuban-style treat rewards the palate with delectable flavors of pepper, earth, coffee, cedar, and subtle hints of citrus. Nestled between the mellow Emerald and the stronger Black Gold, these box-pressed beauties from Senor Sanchez will appeal to premium cigar smokers of all experience levels.

Saving the strongest 1502 blend for last, Black Gold cigars are made with the full-bodied smoker in mind. Premium Nicaraguan tobaccos wrapped in a zesty San Andres Mexican wrapper will accommodate your deepest and darkest flavor cravings. A Maduro lover’s dream, Black Gold seduces the palate with a fragrant medley of espresso, wood, some citrus tones, and heathy dose of peppery zest.

All beautifully box-pressed, impeccably rolled, and uniquely delicious, the full-line of 1502 cigars are sure to find a permanent home in your favorite cigar humidor.

The Fabulous Full-Bodied Romeo 505 Nicaragua Cigars

Tuesday, February 20th, 2018

When one thinks of the famous Romeo y Julieta cigar, Cuba and the Dominican Republic often comes to mind. However, now you can add another country into the equation, with the Romeo 505 Nicaragua.  This is not only the first Romeo blend made in Nicaragua, but it also contains 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos. Hardcore Romeo y Julieta fans may dispute this claim with the RyJ by Romeo y Julieta cigar which debuted in 2013. Yes, it also consisted of only Nicaraguan tobaccos, but it was produced in Honduras— so even though they tasted great and looked the part, those beauties don’t count!

The cigars are a joint venture between Altadis U.S.A. and the famous Plasencia cigar family, and, if you have a modicum of knowledge about premium handmade cigars, you know that nobody makes Nicaraguan cigars better than these two industry titans! Toss in the legendary Altadis Grupo de Maestros who blend and roll these gems, and you have a trifecta of talent rarely found in the release of a new brand.

Plasencia and Altadis are certainly not strangers to each other, because this is third time in recent years that they have collaborated on a Nicaraguan tobacco project. First was for the Montecristo Espada in 2014 followed up with the Espada by Montecristo Estoque.  Both of those Monte line extensions were highly rated by industry experts and the regular cigar smoking community alike.

Romeo 505 Nicaragua cigars come dressed to impress with a sleek and oily Habano seed wrapper expertly box-pressed over a Nicaraguan binder and aged fillers from Jalapa, Estelí and Condega— Three of the most fertile growing regions in the country. This richer, bolder Romeo is a splendid full-bodied indulgence brimming with cedar, savory leather, and hints of roasted peanuts and black pepper that represent the best characteristics that Nicaraguan tobaccos have to offer.

Brilliant orange and black boxes with matching full-length bands tells you that 505 isn’t your dads Romeo, but that was the plan, because Plasencia and Altadis U.S.A wanted to create a modern and edgy rendition that would appeal to contemporary smokers while still retaining the brands timeless Cuban heritage for the old-school crowd.

Available in five popular big-ring sizes, your ideal Romeo 505 Nicaragua cigar is just a mouse click away on the JR Website. Order yours today and enjoy a top-quality smoke deemed a fan favorite among the staff here at the World’s Largest Cigar Store.

Coming Soon – The exciting new Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta Cigars

Tuesday, February 13th, 2018

Set for release this March, Altadis U.S.A. is almost ready to launch their latest installment to the famous Romeo by Romeo y Julieta line. The exciting new Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta will introduce a San Andrés wrapper to a blend of aged Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers and a sturdy Nicaraguan binder. The company calls it “medium to full in body, and bountiful in both flavor and aroma.” It’s also a collaboration between Rafael Nodal and AJ Fernandez, two of the hottest names in boutique style premium handmade cigars.

This new Romeo brand is skewed toward the newer generation of cigar enthusiasts that enjoy a bolder smoke, and no two master blenders can accomplish this task better than Nodal and Fernandez.

For Nodal, of Aging Room Cigars fame, this is the second major project he has been involved with since joining Altadis U.S.A. His first milestone was the TTT Trinidad Santiago, a complex, perfectly balanced, medium to full-bodied blend brimming with lush notes of cocoa, various spices, leather, toasted almonds, and a zesty peppery finish.

On the other hand, AJ Fernandez is no stranger to the Altadis marque with line extensions to such brands such as Montecristo, H. Upmann, Gispert, and Romeo y Julieta. With all these brands Fernandez adds his unique blending style steeped in Cuban tradition to create a series of contemporary blends that put a modern spin on these age- old classics.

Altadis USA aside, the dynamic stogy duo of Nodal and Fernandez are no strangers to each other as they joined forces to create the wildly popular and top-rated Aging Room Pelo de Oro cigars back in 2016.

According to Nodal, “San Andrés is arguably one of the best wrappers in the market, for It has unique characteristics and the ability to enhance a blend if fermented correctly. As for AJ, he has worked with this exceptional leaf in the past and concurs with Nodal’s initial impressions.

Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta will be available in 20-count boxes of four popular sizes including the Robusto (5 x 50), Toro (6 x 54), Pirámides (6 1/8 by 52), and the Short Magnum (5 1/2 by 60).

With Altadis USA, Nodal, and Senor Fernandez at the helm, Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta promises to be a luxury smoke of exceptional quality and taste that will become a staple in tons of full-flavored cigar aficionado’s humidors. So, keep your eyes peeled for these premium handmade beauties on the JR Cigar Website, because March is right around the corner!

Scrim by Hutch— A Completely Different Kind of Cigar Cutter

Thursday, February 8th, 2018

So, what do you give to that special premium cigar smoker in your life that has a humidor filled with a gazillion smokes from every popular manufacturer and just about every cigar accessory one could ever need— how’s about presenting him with a Scrim By Hutch Cigar Cutter! Scrim By who you say? Please read on….

Scrim by Hutch Studios is the maker of specially handcrafted cigar cutters that are unlike any other. Using the enormously popular Xikar Xi3 cutter for his canvas, renowned  artist Rick “Hutch” Hutchings  a Louisville, Kentucky based artisan personally carves spectacular designs of famous characters and symbols from movies, history, stage, and screen, in ivory bark, buffalo horn, fossil walrus, scrimshaw, and other rare and exotic materials.

First unveiling these gems at the IPCPR 2017 trade show, Hutchings, with a large Facebook following and a massive social media presence, amassed quite a large group of fans at his booth with such novelties as the The Big Lebowski set, two buffalo horn cutters based off the film. One features Jeff Bridges’ character, Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, and the other Walter Sobchak played by John Goodman. On display were a slew of other examples of his fine work that our company took home from the show. Let’s have a look at a few of them since you are already deeply vested in this blog.

George Burns, a celebrated comedian and famous cigar smoker is featured on another cutter, which is made of 10,000-year-old mammoth ivory with only 100 individually numbered pieces produced. Staying in the comedian/ cigar smoking genre, the The Scrim By Hutch Groucho Cigar Cutter is made from rare Buffalo Horn and shows the lead Marx Brother in that famous pose with a big stogie sticking out of his kisser.

The Scrim By Hutch Sir Winston Cigar Cutter features the face of one of the most legendary premium cigars smokers and world leaders etched in stunning mammoth ivory. Winston fans can also choose the Scrim by Hutch Winston At War Cutter version that features a beautifully etched rendering of this elder statesman in scrimshaw handsomely decked out in his military gear with the words “Winston At War” boldly etched on the handle.

This Scrim by Hutch Expendables Stallone Skull Cigar Cutter pays homage to Sly in the movie “The Expendables”. His face is accurately carved in scrimshaw artwork. Stallone fans will want to add this highly-collectible, individually numbered cutter to their premium cigar accessory collection. If you really want to draw attention to this stunning piece of artwork in your possession, you can yell “Adrian” at the top of your lungs every time you clip the cap off your cigar. I know, wrong movie, but off the top of my head I couldn’t think of any notable lines from “The Expendables”!

If we somehow piqued your interest, and you have plenty of cash to spend, or maybe you just want to pamper yourself for having to come home every night to three screaming kids and you live with your mother-in-law, this is just a sampling of his fine work, there are plenty more of these fabulous Hutchings creations available now on the JR Cigar website.

Extravagant, elegant, and stunning, best describes the Scrim by Hutch Cigar Cutter line. And, yes, it’s a needless indulgence indeed, but if you’re a looking for a one-of-a-kind, heirloom worthy cigar cutter to present to yourself or give as a very special gift, you won’t find a more intriguing item. And, just imagine the happiness you will bring to the lucky recipient of this highly collectible piece! Or, perhaps Xikar’s stellar reputation for precision cutting and the company’s worry-free lifetime warranty will persuade you to pull the trigger.

The Beautifully Aged Epic Craft Cured from Montecristo

Wednesday, February 7th, 2018

Starting with just one singular line from the Dominican Republic many moons ago, Montecristo, an off-shoot the famous Cuban marque, has grown into a virtual army of unique blends with various strength profiles, shapes, wrapper colors, and sizes.  Now, teaming up with Plasencia, and the famous Grupo de Maestro’s from Altadis, the portfolio expands once more with the decadent Montecristo Epic Craft Cured line.

Montecristo Epic Craft Cured, available in three popular 52-ring sizes, is a Nicaraguan puro highlighted with a rare Rosado wrapper that displays a deep toffee color with a slightly reddish-brown hue and very tight veins. A nice oily patina adds to the cigars lustrous eye-candy appeal. The painstaking curing process used in the Montecristo Epic Craft Cured cigars allow these perfectly aged 10- year old tobaccos to harmoniously blend in a tapestry of flavors that exude luxury and sophistication. And, as one would expect from Montecristo and Plasencia, the construction is pristine, the draw is effortless, and the burn is slow and razor sharp.

The peppery flavor to start the Epic comes with quite a jolt but soon settles down as tamer notes of cocoa, spices, nuts, and dark toasty coffee join the blend. Halfway in, all these flavors take turns becoming the top note, resulting in a multi-layered extravaganza of medium to full bodied goodness. The final third and right down to the band, the Epic picks up a caramel-like sweetness that makes the stick very hard to put down without burning the thumb.

For someone who smokes a steady diet of bold Cuban-style cigars, the Montecristo Epic will be a great addition to their daily rotation, while a creamy textured smoothness on the palate makes it a top choice for new hobbyists looking to move up in strength.

Pairing is a pleasure with these top-notch smokes, as bourbon, craft beer, or just about any libation of choice adds to the cigars overall enjoyment. Non-alcoholic enthusiasts will gain just about as much satisfaction smoking the Epic after a big meal, decadent dessert, or a nice cup of fresh brewed coffee.

A wonderful addition to the famous Montecristo lineup, the  Epic Craft Cured is poised to become one of the crowning jewels of your premium handmade cigar collection.
