The 2018 IPCPR trade show showcased more new cigars than I can even keep track of. So far, this has been one of the best years in recent memory for cigar releases. From the new Liga Privada lines to the a slew of new, flavorful smokes from General Cigar, there was a lot of talk about which cigar is going to become the major fan favorite. Amongst my group at the show, there was one cigar we just couldn’t get out of our minds. That cigar is the newest release from the Garcia family and the team at My Father cigars.
The cigar is known as the My Father La Gran Oferta, which translates to the “the Great Offer”. It is an absolutely exquisite smoke, hand rolled with the finest tobaccos in the world. It starts out aged Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos plucked from the Garcia family farm in Esteli. The finishing touch is an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that is so flavorful, I don’t even know where to start.
The combination of aged tobaccos puts this cigar on par with anything I’ve smoked in the past few years, even some of the best Cuban cigars on the market. It is complex yet subtle, with each layer playing its part. It isn’t too strong, or too mellow, it is honestly as close to perfect as I’ve seen from a brand new cigar.
The Garcia family is amongst the best known and most beloved families in the cigar industry. Along with Padron and Fuente, they have more highly rated cigars than any other manufacturer. I can see the My Father La Gran Oferta not just being well received, but being the signature cigar of the year. Check back right here at JR Cigars for more information s the newest cigars from the 2018 IPCPR trade show start to arrive.

There’s never been a better time to be a premium cigar connoisseur, in 2018, the industry is vibrant, and healthier than even though there are more restrictions on peoples’ right to enjoy a cigar than ever before. Today, there is a multitude of contemporary cigar-makers willing to experiment with wrappers and filler tobaccos from all regions of the world, and by creating these blends defying conventional manufacturing norms, you have a choice of a wide variety of exciting new flavor profiles that are unlike anything you have experienced before! Just walking through the aisles of your favorite cigar store, can be a daunting, yet exciting experience. Sadly, due to this veritable stogie tsunami, many of the old tried and true classics are now over-looked — one of them being the good old Bolivar Cofradia brand.
Still a favorite with many of the veteran cigar aficionados here at JR Cigar, the Cofradia was an enormously popular smoke when it was first produced in the late 1990’s. First manufactured at the Villazon Factory in Honduras under the watchful eye of master cigar maker Estelo Padron, the brand is now part of the famous General Cigar portfolio, with Padron still playing a big part in production.
Bolivar Cofradia remains a four-line vitola selection that features your choice of either an oily, Oscuro Connecticut Broadleaf, or a medium-brown EMS Ecuador wrapper over a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and aged long-fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua.
Although, not as complex as many of the more innovative sticks saturating the market today, the Bolivar Cofradia is a bold, heady cigar, with the straightforward full-bodied flavors of earth, peppery spice, chocolate, and coffee, that old- school purists have come to expect from a handmade premium cigar. When choosing the top- quality Ecuadorian wrapped variety expect more pronounced flavors of spice and roasted nuts, with no chocolate components in the mix.
Still packaged in the same slide-top aromatic cedar chests of 24, and aged for at least one-full year, the Bolivar Cofradia brand also has the same affordable price that die-hard fans really appreciate.
We highly recommend that you take this timeless cigar line for a test-drive, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the fabulous construction and rich Cuban-style taste!

To finish up the new years weekend, I dug out today’s review. I believe this is available in a natural or maduro wrapper. Ed had the maduro version, so that is what I bought a couple months ago. Just like the other high end Padron cigars, this one is definitely priced out of my daily smoke rotation. With the high price comes high expectations. Let’s see how this Padron rates.
Wrapper: Nicaraguan
Binder & Filler: Nicaraguan
Size: 6 x 52
Price: $26.00
Pre-Smoke & Construction:
The dark maduro wrapper almost looked like dark chocolate. It had a few wrinkles and small veins here and there, but overall looked great. The wrapper and foot had a very slight sweet odor. When squeezing the cigar from head to foot, it was very firm and consistent. Despite this, the draw was perfect and had a slight sweet earthy taste.
The burn required a couple corrections in the first and second third. The ash held for about an inch.
Flavor:
The first third greeted me with a smooth sweetness. Despite the smoothness, I could feel that Nicaraguan bite just as well. An espresso/coffee type of flavor joined in with a sweet spice. Under it all were very slight earthy notes. As I dug further into this third, the sweetness revealed itself as a cocoa flavor. The smoke feel became a little thicker and took on a slightly creamy feel. Very nice…
The second third maintained a very similar flavor profile to the first third. A cocoa flavor mixed with espresso or coffee were in the front. A smooth peppery spice was detected when passing the smoke though the nose. The earthy undertones almost went away. Every now and then I picked up on them though.
The last third changed up a little bit. Espresso dominated the flavor profile, with the cocoa following behind. The body and strength increased and packed a small punch. The Nicaraguan spice was in full effect, but it was very smooth.
Conclusion:
First the good: This was a very good full bodied cigar. Overall the flavors were very refined and enjoyable. The bad: The initial burn corrections were a little annoying, and not characteristic of Padron. My other complaint is the price. At $26.00 a stick, I simply don’t think it’s worth it.
In the end, this was a really good refined cigar. Price aside, I think this is worth trying.
