Friday, December 7th, 2018The Fabulous Full-Bodied Romeo 505 Nicaragua Cigars
Tuesday, February 20th, 2018When one thinks of the famous Romeo y Julieta cigar, Cuba and the Dominican Republic often comes to mind. However, now you can add another country into the equation, with the Romeo 505 Nicaragua. This is not only the first Romeo blend made in Nicaragua, but it also contains 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos. Hardcore Romeo y Julieta fans may dispute this claim with the RyJ by Romeo y Julieta cigar which debuted in 2013. Yes, it also consisted of only Nicaraguan tobaccos, but it was produced in Honduras— so even though they tasted great and looked the part, those beauties don’t count!
The cigars are a joint venture between Altadis U.S.A. and the famous Plasencia cigar family, and, if you have a modicum of knowledge about premium handmade cigars, you know that nobody makes Nicaraguan cigars better than these two industry titans! Toss in the legendary Altadis Grupo de Maestros who blend and roll these gems, and you have a trifecta of talent rarely found in the release of a new brand.
Plasencia and Altadis are certainly not strangers to each other, because this is third time in recent years that they have collaborated on a Nicaraguan tobacco project. First was for the Montecristo Espada in 2014 followed up with the Espada by Montecristo Estoque. Both of those Monte line extensions were highly rated by industry experts and the regular cigar smoking community alike.
Romeo 505 Nicaragua cigars come dressed to impress with a sleek and oily Habano seed wrapper expertly box-pressed over a Nicaraguan binder and aged fillers from Jalapa, Estelí and Condega— Three of the most fertile growing regions in the country. This richer, bolder Romeo is a splendid full-bodied indulgence brimming with cedar, savory leather, and hints of roasted peanuts and black pepper that represent the best characteristics that Nicaraguan tobaccos have to offer.
Brilliant orange and black boxes with matching full-length bands tells you that 505 isn’t your dads Romeo, but that was the plan, because Plasencia and Altadis U.S.A wanted to create a modern and edgy rendition that would appeal to contemporary smokers while still retaining the brands timeless Cuban heritage for the old-school crowd.
Available in five popular big-ring sizes, your ideal Romeo 505 Nicaragua cigar is just a mouse click away on the JR Website. Order yours today and enjoy a top-quality smoke deemed a fan favorite among the staff here at the World’s Largest Cigar Store.
Coming Soon – The exciting new Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta Cigars
Tuesday, February 13th, 2018Set for release this March, Altadis U.S.A. is almost ready to launch their latest installment to the famous Romeo by Romeo y Julieta line. The exciting new Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta will introduce a San Andrés wrapper to a blend of aged Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers and a sturdy Nicaraguan binder. The company calls it “medium to full in body, and bountiful in both flavor and aroma.” It’s also a collaboration between Rafael Nodal and AJ Fernandez, two of the hottest names in boutique style premium handmade cigars.
This new Romeo brand is skewed toward the newer generation of cigar enthusiasts that enjoy a bolder smoke, and no two master blenders can accomplish this task better than Nodal and Fernandez.
For Nodal, of Aging Room Cigars fame, this is the second major project he has been involved with since joining Altadis U.S.A. His first milestone was the TTT Trinidad Santiago, a complex, perfectly balanced, medium to full-bodied blend brimming with lush notes of cocoa, various spices, leather, toasted almonds, and a zesty peppery finish.
On the other hand, AJ Fernandez is no stranger to the Altadis marque with line extensions to such brands such as Montecristo, H. Upmann, Gispert, and Romeo y Julieta. With all these brands Fernandez adds his unique blending style steeped in Cuban tradition to create a series of contemporary blends that put a modern spin on these age- old classics.
Altadis USA aside, the dynamic stogy duo of Nodal and Fernandez are no strangers to each other as they joined forces to create the wildly popular and top-rated Aging Room Pelo de Oro cigars back in 2016.
According to Nodal, “San Andrés is arguably one of the best wrappers in the market, for It has unique characteristics and the ability to enhance a blend if fermented correctly. As for AJ, he has worked with this exceptional leaf in the past and concurs with Nodal’s initial impressions.
Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta will be available in 20-count boxes of four popular sizes including the Robusto (5 x 50), Toro (6 x 54), Pirámides (6 1/8 by 52), and the Short Magnum (5 1/2 by 60).
With Altadis USA, Nodal, and Senor Fernandez at the helm, Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta promises to be a luxury smoke of exceptional quality and taste that will become a staple in tons of full-flavored cigar aficionado’s humidors. So, keep your eyes peeled for these premium handmade beauties on the JR Cigar Website, because March is right around the corner!
